Art and architecture occupy a special place in French higher education.

Schools of art

France's écoles supérieures of art and applied arts are public institutions of very high quality that confer nationally regulated diplomas after 3 or 5 years of study.

Other schools—private or administered by chambers of commerce—grant degrees that are specific to each school.

Both categories of school practice selective admissions based on the student's application file or examination results, and often an interview.

Schools of Architecture

French education in architecture has been harmonized with the European LMD degree system.

  • The first 3 years of study lead to a degree in architectural studies that is equivalent to a Licence (Bachelor).
  • After 2 more years, students earn the diplôme d’État d’architecte, equivalent to a Master's degree.
  • After an additional 3 years, students can earn a Doctorate in architecture.

All 20 national schools of architecture (ENSA), regulated by the French Ministry of Culture, offer post-master programmes of specialisation and advanced study, including the important credential known as HMONP that entitles graduate architects to direct building projects independently and in their own name.

Remember: you MUST apply on the EEF platform as well if applying to an ENSA! You are limited to 2 applications (DAP Yellow procedure) and you must have at least a DELF B2 in French.
Applications are from 01 October to 15 December every year.

Campus Art Platform

Campus France has created an online system that allows prospective students to apply simultaneously to 60 carefully selected French schools of art.

The Campus Art network offers a choice of some 200 art programs at the Licence and Master's levels.

Students who have completed at least 3 years of postsecondary study in art can use the system to prepare a single online application that will be considered by every school in the network. The system allows students to track their application through to the offer of admission by the schools.

Campus Art Applications

Online applications for art and architecture studies are open on the Campus Art platform every year, from November to the end of February.

A single online application process enables students to apply for degrees in more than 120 schools and universities.
Answers are given in March, which enables students to prepare their stay as soon as possible.

Campus Art is a network of French institutions offering university-level programs in the fields of art and architecture, led by Campus France with the support of the French Ministries of Education, Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Europe and Foreign Affairs, and Culture.

The platform allows you to search for and apply to various degrees in a wide range of schools (visual arts, cinema, design, visual communication, fashion, music, architecture…). You can access preparatory classes, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Post-Master’s and Doctorate levels.

This online service is totally free until you decide to accept their admission to their chosen degree.

This online application process is international and is, therefore, available everywhere in the world.
